Mustered into Co B, 4th ME Infantry in the field February 28th, 1862 at age 16. Wounded and discharged for disability August 62.
Enlisted into Co M of the 2nd Maine Cavalry January 2nd, 64 and promoted to corporal.
Commissioned 2nd Lt in the 1st DC Cavalry Febuary 26th, 64. Wounded near Reams station August 25th, 64 in his right hand and left leg and captured.
Confined in Raleigh, Salisbury, Danville, and Libby prisons until exchanged March 23rd, 65.
Joined co C, 1st Maine on being exchanged. In command of company M in summer of 65.
Mustered out with the regiment.
