Commissary Sergeant John F. Gould, Company H 2nd Maine Cavalry, Veteran Volunteers John F. Gould was born in 1831 in East Machias Maine and was 29 when he enlisted on April 29th, 1861. He joined the 4th Maine Infantry as a private in company K, and was transferred to the Band. Married, with a medium complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, a merchant, and stood 5 ft. 11 in. tall, and resided in Belfast Maine. He is noted as having deserted from the 4th Band on May 12, 1862 and was discharged from the 4th on May 27, 1862. He enlisted into Co. H, 2nd Maine Cavalry on December 15, 1863, was made Commisary Sergeant and later Quarter Master Sergeant. He was mustered out and honorably discharged on Dec. 6, 1865. Gould died in 1901 and is buried in the Beach Cemetery in Lincolnville, Maine. |
