John D.Myrick 1st Maine Cavalry Lawyer aged 26. Born & raised in Augusta. Served in the University Guards, Cambridge Mass from April 19, 61 to September 61. Recruited a portion of the company. Mustered in November 2nd, 1861 as 2nd Lt. Commissioned 1st Lt December 9th, 62 and Captain January 4th. Commanded company K from date of commission except when absent sick. Commanded 1st battalion in several engagements of the last campaign. Commanded 150 men from companies; D, F, H, K, and M on the Dahlgren raid in March 64. Brevetted Major US Volunteers for gallant and meritorious service. Mustered out with the regiment. Comissioned 1st Lt, 10th Cavalry USA March 7th 1867 and for services at Dinwiddle Court House, brevetted Captain USA on the same date. Served with the 10th until may 17th, 1872 when he resigned and was mustered out. |
